Advocate
CASA programs and their volunteers exist solely
to help vulnerable children. CASA volunteers stand up for abused and
neglected children in Court, advocating for their best interests. CASA
volunteers seek to ensure that:
- The child receives the services they need
- The child is not moved from placement to
placement
- The child spends as little time as possible in
an out-of-home placement before reaching permanency
- The child reached the goal of
"permanency" either with their natural family or through adoption
- The child is protected from further risk of harm
The CASA volunteer communicates through reports to the Judge and other parties
at the time of Court hearings and other agency meetings. The CASA
volunteer makes common-sense recommendations to help the Court determine and
expedite the best permanency plan for their child. The Court Report given
to the Judge is essential to the Judge presiding over the child's case and is
often considered to be the most important guiding factor in the Judge's
decision. The CASA volunteer attends educational meetings and any other
appointment that pertains to their child.
The CASA volunteer
gives to the child what no one else in the child welfare system can - their
undivided, individual attention.
